Cafe Steamers - Sweet Sesame Chicken: Better Carrots?

Hi - I'm enjoying the Cafe Steamers entree Sweet Sesame Chicken, and everything is pretty fresh tasting and yummy EXCEPT for the carrots, which to me, came out like little blocks of tasteless wood. If anyone else is having trouble with the taste of microwaved carrots, got ideas on how to improve this? I'm thinking maybe using grated carrots would help, as the chunks would be smaller and cook better. They would still add color and flavor, but not be such a turn off.
